Get to Know Reimagining Our Westmoreland

Reimagining Our Westmoreland, the Westmoreland County comprehensive plan, was adopted by the Board Commissioners on December 20, 2018. The plan lays out an exciting vision for residents and businesses alike.  Building off our abundance of unique  and diverse places, the plan shows awareness and commitment to working with other local governments:  cities, boroughs and townships.  Get familiar with the plan and how it was created.  Municipal officials—get involved with your Planning District.  Citizens—encourage your elected representatives to do so!  Together, we will achieve more!

Our Commitment

Through constructive dialog and engagement, we can co-create our future.  The Westmoreland County comprehensive plan engaged over 5,000 people to inform broad goals and strategies.  Going from vision to reality relies on the creativity and commitment expressed through the Planning Districts process and the dedication of local officials, who know and care about their communities best, working together.

What Can Planning Districts Do?

The future of the Planning Districts concept is in the hands of the teams working to form them.  The concept sparks a lot of imagination.  Planning Districts can make a difference in:
  • Cultivating arts and entertainment
  • Providing housing options
  • Use of planning best practices
  • Directing development density
  • Addressing municipal "fragmentation"
  • Creating mobility plans

What might this look like?  Who can be activated to:
  • Share services and engage in regional decision-making
  • Form shared knowledge and information banks
  • Bridge the divide between need and resources
  • Assure transparency with the public and with developers
  • Champion informed, data-driven decisions
  • Promote efficiency and fairness in public service

What else? The question is in your hands.  Nothing about the Planning Districts concept should be construed as an abridgment of the local authority of municipalities in Westmoreland County.  This effort is wholly and exclusively voluntary.

Choosing to be involved will spark the best in your creativity and the promise of public service.  We look forward to working with you!
