Mon-Yough District Plan Complete

We're excited to announce the successful completion of the Mon-Yough Planning District project after over one-year of collaboration!

Congratulations to the eight communities of the City of Monessen, North Belle Vernon Borough, Rostraver Township, Sewickley Township, Smithton Borough, South Huntingdon Township, Sutersville Borough, and West Newton Borough for working together over the past year develop a relationship and identify shared regional challenges. Throughout this process, local officials and staff representing Mon-Yough communities:

• aligned county strategies with local priorities;
• discussed land use and the places that matter within the District;
• identified mobility planning opportunities to better connect us to the places that matter;
• and finally explored intergovernmental cooperation to determine ways to work together moving forward

This process culminated with a plan - Remaking Our Westmoreland: A Plan for the Mon-Yough District -  that outlines key strategies to address issues like blight mitigation, bolstering services for older residents, and leveraging the region's valuable trails and destinations to attract visitors and residents alike. 

While the facilitated planning process is complete, representatives from interested communities will continue to meet informally to build on the relationships and ideas fostered during the Planning District process.
